Job Summary
In this hands‑on role, you will monitor and operate key plant systems, support equipment performance, respond to alarms, and help maintain a safe, compliant environment that meets GMP standards.
What you'll do
- Operate and monitor utilities and services supporting manufacturing processesOversee HVAC systems, recording parameters such as velocities, pressures, temperatures, and drainage performance
- Monitor, inspect, and operate boilers, compressors, refrigeration plant, steam generators, stills, and de‑mineralisation plant, including water sampling and interpretation of results
- Carry out minor maintenance tasks including work on steam traps, water and air filters, valves, and draining/refilling systems
- Respond to equipment and plant alarms, performing necessary adjustments or escalation
- Support alarms and corrective actions for the Effluent Treatment Plant when required
- Inspect and replace water filters and other consumables
- Assist in diagnosing plant issues and supporting remedial actions, ensuring all updates are captured in the maintenance management system
- Complete and update required documentation, including revisions to SOPs
- Coordinate delivery and dispatch of bulk chemicals such as supernatant waste, ethanol, caustic and similar materials
- Clean and paint equipment to maintain a GMP‑compliant environmentReport issues affecting critical plant performance to engineering management and relevant section managers
- Ensure correct use and maintenance of personal protective equipment
- Act as point of contact and controller for all works and activities in plant areas
- Maintain GMP compliance across plant areas, including ownership of log books
- Conduct condition monitoring of plant and equipment performance
Qualifications and need-to-know
- Able to work with colleagues across multiple departments.
- Ability to liaise with external contractors working with Site Engineering
- Ability to carry out internal audits
- Maintain various records and reports in boiler log
- Ability to utilise O & M manuals and system drawings.
- Ability to understand and follow complex oral or written instructions on power plant operation.
- GMP/GXP/GEMP experience with equipment log books and training files. (Auditing and Archiving of documents)
- Demonstrate experience with managing the ordering of consumables.
- Demonstrable knowledge of air conditioning plant, water treatment plant and L8 regulations.
- City & Guilds Steam boiler operators qualification or equivalent steam qualification
- Successful candidates will ideally be certified industrial boiler operatives and will have qualifications from an approved boiler operation accredited scheme - acceptable qualifications are: Certified Industrial Boiler Operator (CertIB0) for steam raising boilers; Diploma in Boiler Plant Operation Management (DipBOM). Previous experience will be taken into account.
- Any formal technical qualification in mechanical or maintenance engineering will be looked upon highly favourably.
